Pregnancy Care

Your Body, Your Baby

Mission Valley & San Diego Chiropractor

If you are pregnant, one of the best things you can do is see a doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractic care provides you many things a pregnant body needs: a flexible and balanced spine, hips and pelvis; internal organs without postural stress and freedom from nerve stress - all essential for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Along with a better diet, exercise, avoiding drugs, alcohol and cigarettes; chiropractic care should be an essential part of a pregnant woman's healthcare regimen.

A pregnant woman needs to have her body as healthy and strong as possible in order to handle the rigors of pregnancy and childbirth. Chiropractic care will ensure that all body systems function properly especially the reproductive system. Dr. Mark will examine your spine for spinal misalignments that cause nerve stress. A gentle spinal adjustment has helped many women with back pain, pubic pain, premature contractions, and back labor. Chiropractic care has also been found to normalize problems such as toxemia, shorten labor time, and lessen medication requirements during labor.

Dr. Mark is very experienced in adjusting pregnant women. He has helped many moms throughout the duration of their pregnancies since 1993. He continually stays abreast of new techniques and has been practicing the Webster Technique for several years. He has been very successful in using this technique to correct the position of breech babies.

  • Pelvic alignment and balance
  • Less back pain and pubic pain
  • Reduction in preeclampsia
  • Proper positioning of baby if presenting as breech using the Webster Technique
  • Less back labor
  • Reduced need for pain medication during labor
  • Shorter labor times
  • Less incidence of postpartum depression

FAQs Regarding Chiropractic & Pregnancy

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Chiropractors are trained in adjusting the spines of pregnant women.

How late in pregnancy is it possible to get an adjustment?

Patients have received adjustments even during labor.

Do I have to have a problem in pregnancy to see a chiropractor?

Not at all. Periodic spinal checkups during pregnancy should be as common as periodic weight checkups.

Can spinal adjustments help postpartum depression?

Yes. For years chiropractic's beneficial effects on emotional stress and personality have been noted.

Can my baby receive chiropractic care?

Yes. Dr. Mark has checked all four of his children for subluxations shortly after their births as the birth process can be very traumatic on a baby's spine. Many of his patients have brought their newborns in for a spinal checkup, especially if the infant is experiencing symptoms such as colic, head tilt, difficulty breastfeeding and/or acid reflux, more commonly known as "spitting up", and constipation.
